Summer has arrived! Garden centers have their 50% sale signs up because spring planting is over and inventory needs to move out. Summer is a time to sit outside listening to the melody of bird song, the smell of grills fired up, and children playing away from their screens. During summer, we want time to pass leisurely like a small stream in the woods. It is time to see, hear, listen, taste, and smell all the small and wonderful ways we are connected to life. Summer is our invitation to see our world with the eyes of faith and notice the sacrament of the ordinary. When we see the world we inhabit with the eyes of faith, we can see grace and beauty. We can see that we are more connected to all of nature and to each other than we are disconnected. Between my position at the Diocese and my coming to Trinity, I spent over 2 months in Palm Springs, CA, a “mini retirement.” I have never that much time off since 5th grade. I was disoriented. I slept most of my first week. As I settled in, it became a time of rest and renewal, and of course, fun! One day as I was driving, I was in line at a light and let someone come in front of me from a parking lot. When the driver came in the lane, he blocked me from moving forward. He wanted to make a left hand turn which was 3 lanes away. I glanced over to the car beside me and the driver smiled at me and raised her hands in a gesture of frustration for me. I shrugged my shoulders. She laughed, took a deep breath gesturing me to do the same, to breathe deeply and let it go. The light changed, the traffic finally moved, and we waved to each other as we drove away. A moment. A connection. Grace. In that minute, she and I shared a moment of connection; a moment when grace broke through, surprisingly and unexpectantly, to connect us at a traffic light. The sacrament of the ordinary. As we wander through these summer days, we ask God to open our eyes to see those ordinary moments when God’s grace breaks through to tell us, “I am with you.” |

Each day of the workshop will begin with an iconological discussion relating to these subjects and of the liturgical steps of the process, using the Prosopon method. Day Trip from London to Canterbury:
Wednesday, August 12
RSVP by July 5Are you going on the choir tour, or are you planning on being in London the week of the choir's residency in London? Do you want to come with Mtr. Kara to Canterbury for a day? If so, please let her know by June 28 so that she can make lunch and group tour reservations. We will be taking the train to Canterbury from London on Wednesday, August 12. The tentative schedule for the day is: 8:40: Train from London St. Pancras to Canterbury West 9:40: Arrive in Canterbury TBD: Group Tour of the Cathedral (approximately 1 hour), plus exploring and praying on your own. 12:30: Holy Eucharist Lunch within the Cathedral Precincts Visit to St. Augustine's Abbey and wandering in town 3:30 or 4-ish Return to London Note that there is a 90 percent solar eclipse at 6:17 PM BST and we hope to find a decent place in London to watch! Estimated cost including rail, tour fees, and lunch is about 65 pounds.

JULY 13-17: Cross Roads Day Camp (VBS)Cross Roads Day Camp registration is now open! The camp will be hosted at Trinity Church from 9 AM - 3 PM, July 13-17. Rising Kindergartners through 6th grade are invited to attend. The cost is $100/child. Throughout the week, campers will explore compassion, generosity, humility, quiet strength, and forgiveness through discover time, music, art projects, and community-building activities. Join Us for Trail Church!On Saturday, July 11, we will have a very special worship opportunity that is also a formation opportunity. You may remember having Eucharist outdoors as part of a summer camp or parish activity, or you may have never participated in one before. Well, we’re doing it this summer at Trinity! Trail Church is a chance to meet new and old friends, take a brief hike, and share the Sacrament together outdoors. Praying outdoors is a wonderful way of experiencing the liturgy in different surroundings, where aspects of our worship that you might not have paid much attention to in the past leap out at you with fresh urgency. It’s a way of encountering Jesus (and the Anglican tradition) with fresh eyes. Trail Church is an intergenerational and family-friendly offering from our entire formation team – Anne, Catherine, Donte, and myself – and folks of all ages are welcome. Brennan Breed will provide music for the service. We will meet at 9 AM at the parking lot of Goat Hill Overlook in Lambertville, with a spectacular view of the Delaware River. If you’re navigating by GPS, put “Goat Hill Overlook Trailhead” in your app. We’ll share a coffee and donuts tailgate in the parking lot, then take the short walk up to the overlook. The trail is gravel and dirt, and there is an easy-to-moderate uphill slope on the way up. The whole walk, out and back, is about a mile. I hope you’ll be part of this fun event to share awe in God’s creation and awe in the presence of Jesus in the Eucharist!
