You may have read in the news that Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby has announced his resignation. He stepped down in response to a report on horrific abuses perpetrated over decades by a prominent layperson at a camp for elite boarding school students. The political situation surrounding his resignation is extremely complicated, and some believe he was made a scapegoat by people who disagreed with him over other issues in the Church of England. In any event, it has highlighted once again that the protection of vulnerable members of our community is of paramount importance. 

What happens now? In the Episcopal Church, the Presiding Bishop is elected by the House of Bishops and the election is ratified by the House of Deputies. But the Church of England appoints rather than elects bishops. The Crown Nominations Commission, a group selected as shown in the bafflingly complicated diagram below, will select Archbishop Justin’s successor. Along with officials from the Church of England, the Commission will also include five members of the broader Anglican Communion representing Asia, the Americas, Africa, Europe, and Oceania. It is theoretically possible, but very unlikely, that the Commission will choose a bishop from another part of the Communion. 

Advent is traditionally a time to focus on what's called the Four Last Things, including the reality of death. But in our culture, we are often hesitant to talk about it. For four weeks starting this Sunday, November 17, we'll consider both the theology and the practicalities of the end of life. Join us for this very special series at Trinity Church. This Sunday, Kara will lead a discussion of what Christians believe about death and eternal life. Don't miss it!

Trinity Intern Richard Pryor will offer a brief talk that previews a forthcoming paper presentation on missionary history and discuss why, for him, historical research is integral to his call to Christian ministry.

 There will be a myriad of activities on Thanksgiving morning.  Set up will begin around 6:30.  We are still in need of on-course marshalls.  We will still be passing out bibs and shirts.  And clean up will follow until about 10:30 – 11:00.

Grief is one of life’s most profound experiences. Many of us are simply not prepared for the level of sadness, isolation, and vulnerability that often result after losing someone we deeply love. We have expanded our gatherings and will offer two separate groups. Please join us as we share our journeys of grief, supported by God’s grace, Scripture, and one another.

It is time to sign up for the Christmas Pageant! This year's pageant will take place during the 10:30 am service on Sunday, December 22. We will be using a brand new script, complete with original songs! Rehearsals will be Sundays after church during the month of December, although not everyone will need to be at every rehearsal. Princeton Glee Club Events

Here at the Glee Club, we're very proud to announce that our upcoming 150th anniversary celebrations will kick off on November 15th with a performance in Richardson Auditorium by the unstoppable superstars of global a cappella - THE KING’S SINGERS - featuring a program of music curated specially for the occasion, and joined on stage by the Princeton University Glee Club for the world premiere of a new work by American composer Stacey V. Gibbs.

The celebrations continue on Saturday the 16th with a gala concert featuring around 350 past and present members of the Princeton University Glee Club, all singing together. Tickets can be reserved at tickets.princeton.edu

To end the weekend, we will have a chapel sing of Fauré’s Requiem on Sunday the 17th at 2:30pm in the Princeton University Chapel. All are welcome to attend! This event is free and unticketed.

The program features Vivaldi's masterful Gloria accompanied by a chamber ensemble, as well as contemporary choral compositions and arrangements that invoke the many moods of the holiday season.  It's sure to delight attendees as they celebrate this season of increased community and connection!
The Baroque composer Antonio Vivaldi’s Gloria, is an ever-popular favorite with audiences since its writing over 300 years ago. Voices Chorale is honored and excited to be joined by members of the acclaimed Capital Harmony Works’ Trenton Children’s Chorus as this Christmas story is depicted through Vivaldi’s masterful musical imagery.
The program then fast-forwards through the centuries, presenting old and new texts set to music by contemporary composers, from a heartfelt Hanukkah prayer to a song of rejoicing in Latin (Gaudete!). As a special touch, the audience is treated to side-by-side contrasting musical settings of the same texts to underscore their beauty through different musical prisms.
With the combined groups “singing out” together in “Sing Out, My Soul!” by Marques Garrett, there is truly something for everyone. Don’t miss this uplifting experience!
