In the season of Advent, we turn our eyes with great intent toward the coming of Jesus. This weekend will feature a wealth of music to adorn this most important focus. On Sunday morning, our 10:30 a.m. service will feature the Lutheran Advent hymn “Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland” (“Come now, Savior of the nations”). We will hear this presented in a florid, lyrical style in the prelude, in a fugue for full organ in the postlude, and in a full Bach cantata that will be interspersed at various points in the liturgy. For the cantata, our staff singers will be accompanied by a chamber orchestra. In the evening, our combined choirs will offer our annual Service of Advent Lessons & Carols, which is designed to usher us all into this season of reflection with beauty and deep meaning. Beloved favorite hymns are interspersed with choral works ranging from the Renaissance to a piece composed only two years ago. Please join us for these rich choral offerings, and please invite family and friends!

2025 Turkey Trot

This year’s Turkey Trot is in the books.  Thanks to the work of our many volunteers and a major boost from the weatherman, more than 2200 runners headed down Mercer Street in our annual Thanksgiving morning 5K. 

On behalf of our partner organizations – ArmInArm, Urban Promise, Housing Initiatives of Princeton, Capitol Harmony Works, and HomeFront – we wish to thank our sponsors, volunteers, and participants for another successful run. 

Like make of the things we take on at Trinity, it couldn’t happen with the involvement of many.  Thank you.  See you next year.

Stewardship

Happy Thanksgiving.  Thank you to the 146 of you who have pledged about $630,000 to date.  That is about 36% of our participation goal and a notch above 50% of our dollar goal.  We are moving into the budget formation activity of the Vestry and the Finance Committee. 

That work is greatly assisted by knowing where our pledging level lands.  For those of you who have pledged, again, thank you.  For those who have not pledged yet, please do.  Pledges of any size matter.  Please think about what this wonderful community means to you – week in and week out – and pledge for 2026.  You can do so by going to the Trinity website.

Adult Formation Corner

Happy New Year! This Sunday marks the beginning of a new liturgical year. In the Lectionary, we shift from Year C, where we read from the Gospel of Luke, back the Year A, where we read from the Gospel of Matthew. (In Year B, as you can guess, we read from the Gospel of Mark.) Over the course of the next liturgical year, we will hear again the story of who Jesus is – and learn what it means to be a follower of Jesus. In his commentary on Matthew, Stanley Hauerwas writes,

For Matthew, Jesus has changed the world, requiring that our lives be changed if we are to live as people of the new creation. Accordingly, the gospel is not information that invites us to decide what we will take or leave…Matthew writes so that we might become followers, be disciples, of Jesus [and] live as witnesses to the world that God has changed. We should not be surprised, therefore, if the way we live makes the change visible.

Here's to a new year of making the difference that Jesus makes visible in the world.

Oregon Trailblazers Lunch

On Sunday, December 14, the Oregon Trailblazers will host a lunch following the 10:30 service. For parents in the group, this will give you a break and a chance to eat during the Christmas pageant rehearsal. But this isn't just for parents - Oregon Trailblazers is for everyone who is "vaguely middle-aged"! Let us know if you're coming so we can order enough food. CHOIR TO LONDON

In August 2026, our choir will be on tour in the UK, first at Ely Cathedral and then at Westminster Abbey.

Trinity is putting together a trip for any parishioners who would like to support the choir while they are in London - and see the sights in London and beyond.

Whether you are a chorister parent, a spouse or friend of an adult choir member, or a Trinity parishioner who enjoys music, liturgy, and history, this trip is for you!

The tour will include day trips to Canterbury Cathedral and to Oxford, as well as activities in London itself. We will attend daily Evensong at Westminster Abbey, as well as the Sunday Eucharist at which Trinity's choir will sing.

Please come to help hang wreaths on Saturday, November 29th. 10 AM. Meet inside the circle door entrance…wear warm clothes if it is cold…We have about 30 wreaths to hang on doors and gates and fences!  Many hands make light work!

Here is how it works:

You buy a bag for a small fee, and then you fill it with cookies of your choice from the trays of delicious home-made cookies baked by fellow parishioners.  So please stop by after the 8am or 10:30 service, and enjoy this Christmas tradition!

Arm and Arm Urgent request for Food Pantry Volunteers

In response to the government shutdown, Arm in Arm, a core Trinity outreach partner, is activating an emergency plan to serve 250 additional families weekly by extending pantry hours at two sites.  Volunteers are urgently needed to help staff these additional shifts at the food pantries listed below. Travel to the Holy Land

A couple of years back, some members of Trinity Church traveled with our Rector, Paul Jeanes, and The Rev. Keith Marsh and to the Holy Land.

It proved to be a marvelous and spiritually uplifting experience for all who made the pilgrimage! After retiring in June of 2023, Keith started Spirited Pilgrimages, a business devoted to planning, promoting and hosting unique, small-group pilgrimages around the world for people of faith.

Two pilgrimages have been planned for the fall of next year and you are invited to join: 

• The Footsteps of Paul – September 9-19, 2026 – travel through Turkey and Greece by land and sea - visit sites from the Book of Acts associated with St. Paul on his missionary journeys: Ephesus, Patmos, Corinth, Athens and more, including the islands of Crete and Santorini  

• Celtic Christianity – October 12-24, 2026 – follow the path of Christianity’s early years in the Celtic kingdoms, beginning in Ireland and expanding into Scotland and northern England – trace the spread of Celtic Christianity from its introduction by St. Patrick to its demise at the Council of Whitby.

These pilgrimages will be led by Keith, an experienced pilgrimage planner and host.
