Dear People of Trinity Church,
…about money! It’s that time of year again. It’s time for stewardship. This year I am completely renewed and excited because of a small book by Henri Nouwen, A Spirituality of Fundraising. At the heart of Nouwen’s teaching is that money, fundraising, stewardship, spending money, and making money are all spiritual matters. Money is not a dirty “secular” thing that we touch only when we must, but rather is a vital part of our spiritual experience and a barometer of our relationship with God and one another. Money is a blessing and rightly using it is a sacred and holy task.
This Sunday we kick-off our stewardship campaign for 2020, This is Our Time! I invite you to be in worship and to join us in the Adult Forum (9am, Pierce-Bishop Hall). We are going to talk about God. We are going to talk about Trinity Church. We are going to talk about mission and ministry. We are going to talk about money! You might think, “O my, this would be a good Sunday to stay home.” But, I strongly urge you to join us. I urge you to be part of the conversation. Until we, as a community of faith, truly get serious about such a conversation and get serious about what money means to us and its place in our lives, money will continue to be an obstacle to our mission rather than a blessing and the means through which we live into a more robust ministry than we could ever imagine.
I am renewed and excited. It’s stewardship time! This is our church and this is our time! This is our time to talk about money! See you Sunday!
Peace & Blessings,
The Rev. Paul Jeanes III
